Unlike franchises or other types of consumer markets, the stock and stock option markets have been around for hundreds of years. And although the markets have changed in some ways, the principles have remained the same for over 210 years.

How did I learn the best methods to pick stocks and options?

One day I woke up to find a little extra money sitting in a money market earning 1.5% a year. The next year it increased to 3%... yes - 3% a year.

I felt my money could be working harder so I started looking into all kinds of franchise opportunities and other businesses... but they all had one major drawback - the financial investment was too large and also the investment of time... something I just didn't have as a father with four kids.

So after years of 'speculation' trading I started looking at trading as a business about 2 1/2 years ago - buying and selling stocks and options as a means of real income. I didn't know if it could be done, but the idea was attractive. I knew the Buffets and Morgans were making a killing in the markets and I was determined to learn everything they know and get my piece of the pie.

I was determined to get serious and run my trading as a profession, not as a gambler anymore. That meant looking for opportunities, marketplace dynamics, supply and demand and managing on solid business fundamentals: expenses, overhead, profit, loss and ROI.

Like any business my concern was to find something that I could sell at a profit - and with enough of a profit margin so that my expenses (although small) were always covered leaving me with a reliable income.

The good news is, the business of trading does have all of these advantages.

Once you know the option trading system, this type business can be managed in 20 minutes a day.

This may be as close as it gets to a 'perfect' business!

The problem with creating a business based on the markets is that it seems like there is too much risk!

As you know, the markets fluxuate day to day.

I was really confused which way the market head, and since I dreaded losing money I tried to "predict" the market's direction because that's how I THOUGHT it was done.

I got extremely good at 'technical analysis'... I THOUGHT that it was the key to profits... if I could tell where the market was headed I would be rolling in money, right?

I masteredt waves and candle sticks, ADX, CCI, MACD, Fibonacci and Bollinger Bands, hundreds of chart patterns.... and I thought I 'knew' the future of the market!

Reality, technical indicators are like crutches - they only help to support and validate your trading ideas. They do not help you become a better trader or predict the market. There are only 3 technical indicators you need to run my business: support, resistance and trend lines. That's' all. Keep it simple. Simple makes us money.

I also learned the TOP 1% of all traders do the opposite of what I 'WAS' doing (predicting the market)... The truth is...

Top traders NEVER attempt to predict the market -
they only manage thier risk.

Top traders don't care if the market goes up or down - they make money in both cases. They use charts but very sparingly.

All that top traders really do is manage risk and take advantage of the facts of the market - the ONLY absolute truths of the market.

For stocks that ONE Absolute Truth is this:

1) All stock prices fluctuate.

For options there are two Absolute Truths:

1) All option prices fluctuate

2) All options do expire.

Learn to respect these rules because they are always the ONLY truths of the market.

Everything you hear about the market outside these 2 rules is just opinion, commentary and even wishful thinking.

Of course you will never hear anyone on the news even mention these 2 rules because what is there to say?
